在职场中，其实有很多用语是约定俗成的。如果不在特定场景下说出某句话，你可能会觉得有点奇葩。

比如，老板说“Take five”可不是让你“拿个5”，那老板是啥意思？

1. Take five

职场英语高频句“Take five”知道啥意思吗？不懂可能要累趴下！

It means to take five means to take one brief rest period，usually its about five minutes.

Take five其实相当于take a short break，所谓的短短地休息一下，通常是5分钟。

经常用于开会，开到一半大家都疲了，这时候老板可能就会说take five。

英语例句：

① Lets take five and get some coffee.

我们休息五分钟，喝杯咖啡。

② Okay, guys, take five . Be back here in five minutes on time.

好了，伙计们，休息五分钟。五分钟后准时回来。

* 说五分钟就五分钟，一分钟不给你多休息。哼。

2. It takes two to tango

吵架的时候或者互相推托责任的时候，会说到一个巴掌拍不响，那在英文中我们也有对应的俗语哦。

这其中用到了tango（探戈）这个舞蹈，It takes two to tango。

想象一下，探戈是一个社交性的舞蹈，没有两个人就跳不起来，所以相当于一个巴掌拍不响。

英语例句：

① It takes two to tango and I’m afraid so far our relationship has been one-sided.

一个巴掌拍不响，恐怕到目前为止我们的关系还是单方面的。

* 单相思啊！不禁想起一首歌：Single dog, single dog, single all the way.（自行搭配《铃儿响叮当》的曲调）

② She may want to argue, but it takes two to tango and I wont stoop to her level.

她可能想和我吵，但一个巴掌拍不响，我不会屈尊到她的水平的。

* 哈哈，注意stoop to her level，屈尊到某人的水平。表示狗咬我，我难道要去咬它吗？我还要不要格调啊。

3. Dressed up to the nines

It means someone is wearing smart or glamorous clothes.

也就是说打扮得光彩照人，想象下，9:00一般都是去参加晚宴，Dressed up to the nines，穿着去晚宴的服装肯定非常地光彩照人。

英语例句：

① The doorbell rang and there was Amanda, all dressed up to the nines.

门铃响了，是Amanda，打扮得漂漂亮亮的。

② I have to be dressed to the nines at this gala tonight—a lot of important people will be there.

今晚我得盛装出席这个晚会，许多重要人物都要来。

* gala 表示各种晚会。还记得春节联欢晚会吗？就是用Spring Festival Gala或者CCTV Gala哟。
